Drive Clyp from your AI agent

Local MCP server · stdio · Node 20+ · assistbda ltd

Clyp ships an MCP server so Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and other MCP clients can quote costs, generate clips, poll jobs, and schedule posts with your Clyp account — using the same backend the web app uses.

Fastest path: mint an API key in Clyp, paste the agent prompt below into your agent, and let it install @assistbda/clyp for you.

1. Mint a Clyp API key

  1. Sign in at clyp.assistbda.com.
  2. Open your profile / Account → API Keys.
  3. Click Mint API Key and copy the ak_… value.

The key carries full account authority, including spending render credits. Keep it out of git and chat logs.

2. Copy this prompt into your agent

Hand the block below to Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or any agent that can edit MCP config and run shell commands. Replace nothing except when it asks for your key.

agent-prompt
Connect my Clyp account to this agent via the Clyp MCP server.

Do the following end-to-end. Ask me only for secrets you cannot invent (the API key).

1) Account
- Open https://clyp.assistbda.com and make sure I am signed in.
- Full setup docs: https://clyp.assistbda.com/mcp

2) API key
- In Clyp: open my profile / Account → API Keys → Mint API Key.
- The key starts with ak_ — treat it as a secret with full account authority (it can spend render credits).
- Prefer reading it from env CLYP_API_KEY if already set; otherwise ask me to paste it once and store it only in the MCP server config (never commit it, never echo it back in full).

3) Install (pick what matches this environment)

Claude Code:
  claude mcp add clyp -- env CLYP_API_KEY=ak_YOUR_KEY npx -y @assistbda/clyp

Generic stdio MCP client (Cursor, etc.):
  command: npx
  args: ["-y", "@assistbda/clyp"]
  env: { "CLYP_API_KEY": "ak_YOUR_KEY" }

Claude Desktop (macOS/Windows):
  Configure claude_desktop_config.json with the same npx/@assistbda/clyp stdio server:
  command: npx
  args: ["-y", "@assistbda/clyp"]
  env: { "CLYP_API_KEY": "ak_YOUR_KEY" }
  Node.js 20+ required.

4) Verify
- Confirm these tools are available: clyp_quote, clyp_create_clips, clyp_job, clyp_list_jobs, clyp_get_clip, clyp_list_accounts, clyp_publish, clyp_preview_style, clyp_save_style_preset, clyp_list_watched_channels, clyp_add_watched_channel, clyp_update_watched_channel, clyp_remove_watched_channel, clyp_list_channel_videos, clyp_poll_channel.
- Call clyp_quote (no spend) and report the credit cost and whether I can afford a generation.

5) Operating rules (always)
- Call clyp_quote and tell me the number before any clyp_create_clips spend, unless I already approved a cost.
- Provide exactly one of url (YouTube video I own, not a playlist) or file_path (absolute local path).
- Poll clyp_job with the returned job_id until agent_status is complete, failed, or paused. If paused, tell me to finish the face-crop in the Clyp web app — there is no MCP tool for that.
- Never invent facecam/caption coordinates. Only pass style fields I explicitly gave or a named style_preset from clyp_quote.
- Prefer client_request_id on create so a timeout retry does not double-charge.
- Clyp is for content I own or have rights to. Do not process other people's videos.

6) When done
- Summarize what you installed, which tools you verified, and the next natural command (e.g. quote + create clips for a URL I provide).

3. Or install yourself

Claude Code

claude-code
claude mcp add clyp -- env CLYP_API_KEY=ak_YOUR_KEY npx -y @assistbda/clyp

Generic MCP config (Cursor and similar)

mcp-json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "clyp": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@assistbda/clyp"],
      "env": {
        "CLYP_API_KEY": "ak_YOUR_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

Claude Desktop (macOS / Windows)

  1. Open Claude Desktop's claude_desktop_config.json file.
  2. Add the Clyp server using the generic npx configuration shown above.
  3. Restart Claude Desktop and confirm that the Clyp tools are available.

To update the local server to the latest release, run npm install -g @assistbda/clyp@latest.

Tools you get

  • clyp_edit_candidate — edit an existing Candidate Moment's bounds; does not re-render

  • clyp_list_channel_videos — list recent videos for a watched channel
  • clyp_poll_channel — poll a watched channel on-demand to refresh its listings

Rules that save credits

  • Always clyp_quote before clyp_create_clips unless the human already approved a cost.
  • Pass a stable client_request_id on create so timeouts do not double-charge.
  • If clyp_job reports paused, the human must finish face-crop placement in the web app — there is no MCP tool for that step.
  • Only process videos the account owner has rights to.
  • clyp_rescan costs 3 credits — use it only when the initial Moment Finder result is unsatisfactory and the human has approved the spend.
  • clyp_remix_clip and clyp_remix_batch spend credits — confirm the human wants to proceed before calling them.

Requirements

  • Node.js 20+ for the npm / npx path
  • Claude Desktop: macOS or Windows via claude_desktop_config.json
  • Transport today: local stdio (your agent launches @assistbda/clyp). There is no public remote MCP URL yet — the server talks to the Clyp HTTPS API with your key.
